Just In: Chiefs Aiming for Unexpected Prospect in First Round of NFL Draft, Insider Reports Suggest

According to reports, the Chiefs are focusing on a single talent in the first round of Thursday night’s 2024 NFL Draft. Although there has been a lot of conjecture around the wide receiver Kansas City would select in light of Rashee Rice’s likely imminent suspension, the team appears to be more infatuated with BYU offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia.

“Multiple sources told me it’s looking more and more as though Kansas City Chiefs will select offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia with the final pick on Thursday night,” wrote Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda on Tuesday.

Suamataia was formerly associated with the Chiefs and even paid them a formal visit. Should Brett Veach select the gifted tackle over a pass-catching weapon, might he pull off a stunning coup?

According to Pauline, “I was privy to the fact that Suamataia had a great visit with the Chiefs last month and impressed the organization during his time at the facility.”

The club will choose a receiver, according to betting odds, and Pauline says it’s possible that a player slips to No. 32 by surprise. Having said that, Kansas City’s decision to choose the BYU lineman makes sense considering the overall depth at wide out. For example, in my second mock draft, I selected Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in the second round and Suamataia in the first.

Suamataia, a 6’5″, 326 LB relative of Lions tackle Penei Sewell, has both left and right tackle experience. He switched to the left in 2023 and gave up only two sacks in 644 snaps after giving up none in 632 snaps on the right side in 2022.

Andy Reid has his eye on Suamataia, an offensive lineman who is both versatile and incredibly agile. He’s adept at both run and pass blocking, and his affiliation with BYU doesn’t hurt either.

It sounds more and more like Suamataia may soon be the newest member of your Kansas City Chiefs; we’ll see what happens on Thursday night.
