Eilmeldung: Formel 1 sichert sich Großen Preis von Bahrain bis 2036 mit historischem Langzeitvertrag

Just In; Formula 1 Secures Bahrain Grand Prix Until 2036 in Historic Long-Term Deal

Formula 1 has confirmed that the Bahrain Grand Prix will remain a fixture on the racing calendar through 2036, marking the longest race contract in the sport’s history. This extended agreement underscores F1’s strategy to cement strong relationships with existing venues amid rising global interest, partly fueled by the thrilling 2021 season and the success of Netflix’s Drive to Survive.

The Bahrain International Circuit, which first hosted a Grand Prix in 2004, has become a cornerstone of F1’s Middle Eastern expansion. As the current season opener and host of key pre-season testing sessions, Bahrain plays a pivotal role in the sport’s operations. The nation also holds historical significance as the first Middle Eastern country to host a Formula 1 race.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed enthusiasm about the extended partnership:

“We are delighted to continue racing at the Bahrain International Circuit until 2036. Since 2004, Bahrain has delivered unforgettable races, and we look forward to many more in the years to come. The commitment from HRH Prince Salman and his team has been outstanding, and their continued dedication ensures Bahrain remains an essential part of our sport.”

This announcement follows a series of long-term agreements with other key venues, including extensions for the Singapore GP (now running through 2028), China (through 2025), and Abu Dhabi (through 2030). The 10-year contracts with Saudi Arabia and Qatar further highlight F1’s investment in the Middle East, which has become increasingly valuable both commercially and strategically.

Bahrain’s first contract extension was signed in 2007, running until 2016, although the 2011 race was canceled due to civil unrest. In 2013, F1’s then-chief Bernie Ecclestone negotiated a new deal that secured the event until 2021. During the disrupted 2020 season, Bahrain played a crucial role by hosting a second event, the Sakhir Grand Prix, on its alternative outer loop circuit.

With this unprecedented 12-year extension, Bahrain cements its status as a central pillar of the Formula 1 calendar, reflecting the sport’s commitment to blending legacy venues with global expansion.
