West Bromwich Albion have secured the signing of centre-back Nat Phillips from Liverpool, adding a wealth of Championship experience and defensive resilience to their squad. The 27-year-old ends his nine-year association with the Reds as he begins a new chapter at The Hawthorns.

 

Phillips, who joined Liverpool’s academy in 2016 from Bolton Wanderers, developed into a dependable defender under Jürgen Klopp’s guidance. While opportunities at Anfield were limited due to fierce competition in the heart of defence, Phillips became a cult hero for Liverpool fans during the 2020/21 campaign. Injuries to key players opened the door for him to showcase his no-nonsense style and aerial dominance, helping Liverpool secure a top-four Premier League finish against the odds.

 

Eager for regular first-team football, Phillips gained valuable experience on loan at several clubs. His spell at AFC Bournemouth in 2022 proved particularly successful, as he played a key role in their promotion push back to the Premier League. Calm in possession and strong in the air, Phillips impressed with his leadership and composure under pressure.

A short loan stint at Celtic in 2023 further added to his CV, but with game time at Liverpool still limited, Phillips was keen for a permanent move. West Brom seized the opportunity to bring in a player with both top-flight and Championship pedigree.

 

Speaking after completing the transfer, Phillips expressed his excitement about the move:
