Breaking; Former Hawks Guard Terance Mann Reacts to Trade in Now-Deleted Social Media Post

Offseason moves in the NBA often spark excitement and speculation, and the Atlanta Hawks’ trade for Kristaps Porzingis was no exception. But while fans celebrated the high-profile acquisition, it also marked the end of the road for several players — including Terance Mann.

Mann, who was acquired by the Hawks from the Los Angeles Clippers ahead of the trade deadline in a deal that also brought in Bones Hyland and sent out Bogdan Bogdanovic, didn’t appear thrilled about the development.

Shortly after news of the trade broke, Mann shared a reaction on social media, calling the move “crazyyyyy” and referencing his birthplace at Brooklyn Hospital. The post was later deleted, likely because the trade hadn’t been finalized at the time, as the Brooklyn Nets were expected to absorb Mann into their cap space.

At 28 years old, Mann logged respectable numbers with Atlanta. In 30 games following the trade, he averaged 9.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. He ranked eighth on the team in minutes played and ninth in scoring during that stretch.

However, his contributions in the postseason left much to be desired. In the Hawks’ Play-In Tournament games against the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat, Mann scored just seven total points and registered one of the lowest efficiency ratings on the team.

NBA analyst Dan Favale was blunt in his evaluation of Mann’s role and future with Atlanta in a June 21 analysis.
“Terance Mann is likely the Hawks’ most expendable mid-tier contract,” Favale wrote. “He fits the gritty, defensive identity the team is building around Trae Young, but Atlanta shouldn’t hesitate to move him if it means strengthening their secondary playmaking or frontcourt depth.”

Favale added that while Mann’s contract isn’t problematic, his inconsistent offensive output limits his effectiveness and how much court time he can realistically command.

Despite those concerns, Mann wasn’t without support. Hawks star Trae Young had expressed enthusiasm about playing alongside the versatile guard. Atlanta had hoped Mann could fill the void left by the beloved Bogdanovic and provide a steady presence behind the four-time All-Star.

Though Mann may not have had overwhelming trade value on his own, his manageable contract made him a flexible piece in Atlanta’s roster strategy. As the offseason unfolds, his next stop remains to be seen — but Mann’s brief stint in Atlanta, and his candid reaction to leaving it, shows the often emotional, human side of the business of basketball.
