Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike, with reports confirming that the club is in direct negotiations to bring the Eintracht Frankfurt striker to Old Trafford.

Newly appointed United manager Ruben Amorim is prioritizing the addition of a top-class striker this summer to address the club’s attacking deficiencies. After missing out on Liam Delap, who chose to join Chelsea instead, and Viktor Gyokeres, who reportedly favors a move to Arsenal despite his successful stint under Amorim at Sporting CP, United have shifted their focus toward Ekitike.

According to BILD, via UtdDistrict, United are in advanced talks with Ekitike’s agent and brother, Karl Mwalako-Buchmann. The 22-year-old French forward is believed to be open to a move to Manchester, and negotiations are progressing between the two parties.

Significantly, Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director, Markus Krösche, maintains a strong relationship with United’s head of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, which could facilitate the transfer. Although other Premier League sides like Chelsea and Arsenal have also shown interest in Ekitike, United are currently the only club to have made direct contact with Frankfurt.

Respected Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has also reported that Manchester United have expressed firm interest and have already initiated discussions with Ekitike’s camp.

Ekitike, a former Paris Saint-Germain player, is considered one of Europe’s brightest attacking prospects. Known for his intelligent movement, creative link-up play, and technical finesse, he can operate both as a central striker and in a supporting role. Last season, he registered an impressive 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances for Frankfurt.

However, any potential transfer could hinge on financial negotiations. Frankfurt are said to value Ekitike at around €100 million, a price that may prove steep for United unless they can generate funds through player sales or other financial maneuvers.

As Amorim seeks to reshape United’s forward line, Ekitike emerges as a leading candidate—though the deal will depend heavily on the Red Devils’ willingness and ability to meet Frankfurt’s high asking price.
